Mark and I had a little double date adventure over the weekend with our friends Mike and Trey, going to the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival and then the Cheesecake Factory.
I had never been to the festival before, so it was a novel experience. People dressing up like it's the middle ages, watching people joust, trying ye olde wine tastings, and seeing people eating oversized drumsticks was all in good fun. (And it continues every weekend for the rest of the month, if you're local and want to check it out.)
I hope you can excuse the muddy feet. We were roughing things there a little more than I was expecting.
Anyway, back to the crop top. It's actually a little miniature sweater, and I found it at a vintage flea market, called the Neighborhood Flea, for 50 cents! I kind of picked it up for fun, but figured if I wore something high waisted with it, it would be OK. (I think Elana inspired me at some point, but I can't find the post that talks about it.) Anyway, that's what I ended up doing! A crop top and a high waisted skirt.
I felt daring, showing off a little bit of midriff skin, but I think I'd do it again if I were feeling confident enough.
Also, I know that I kinda mixed a 50s type skirt with 60s stuff, aka the sunglasses and sweater top, but I think I did OK with mixing it up a bit. Yeah? Do people even care about that kind of thing?
Have you taken any fashion "risks" lately?
I think your outfit works so well! Honestly you pull off the midriff look but I totally get what you mean for wearing it on your most daring and comfortable days. I haven't ever been to a renaissance festival actually but if I did go, um Id totally buy one of those crowns. Im a sucker for letting myself indulge at things like that even if its stupid. Like when its the 4th of july and I'm somewhere I always fall for buying some sort of light up red white and blue something or other, as if Im five years old (this year it was a star necklace). I think it stems from my parents being rational and not letting me give into those indulgences haha now that I'm my own proper adult Im like fuck yeah Im spending 15 bucks on this floral crown that Ill never wear again in my life!

I should've just bought one. I knew it! The biggest reason why I didn't is because I know Mark would've given me crap about it (he's a cheapie). So I didn't even bother. Haha.
DeleteI do like occasionally going on the I'm-a-freaking-adult splurge once in awhile, though. :)
I love the outfit. I have a few cropped pieces but I never feel 100% comfy in them, now I'm got more high waisted bits in the wardrobe though, it's a bit easier to wear them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a pretty awesome festival, but I've never had the chance to go to something like that. Almost went to a medieval festival this summer but it was cancelled for some reason that I can't remember.
A renaissance festival sounds like fun! I've never been but I love seeing people all dressed up in costume so I may have to add it to my to-do list. I think this crop top and skirt combo looks awesome on you. This striped crop top is super cute. I wish I had one like it!

I think the top and skirt combo is adorable on you. I'm so excited to go to my local renaissance festival this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if people care about mixing eras but I totally don't care- you look amazing!!! crop tops on you forever! and I totally might be checking out the ren fair since I am only an hour away and I've been to Pittsburgh like 5 times in the past two weeks anyways :)
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic! I love the crop top on you, and I'm so happy you took the risk. I was pretty hesitant about crop tops at first too, but they work so well with high-waisted things. And sounds like such a fun time!
